A well-known business problem
In endurance racing, tire monitoring is a real challenge. At every race, hundreds of tires are mounted, dismounted and reused. And each tire must be rigorously identified, traced and checked. Philippe Planeix, Technical Advisor at Michelin Motorsport, gives us his opinion on the automated tire detection solution developed by CIPAM:
Michelin Motorsport has been using RFID chips embedded in its tires for over ten years. Until now, the readings were taken manually or at the factory. But the growing demands of competition have called for a new approach: reading data automatically, in real-life conditions, with vehicles in motion.
CIPAM’s innovative solution
Against this backdrop, CIPAM has developed a tailor-made solution: an RFID gantry capable of dynamically reading the 4 tires of a racing car… travelling at 60 km/h.
👉 This system also reads the car’s number, for complete traceability every time it passes.
👉 It enables automated identification of tires as soon as they enter the control zone.
